the marathon

The past few days have been quite fast for me. Going to interviews, attending thesis meetings, doing researches, planning meet-ups, coming up with summer plans and a whole lot more. I can’t say I hate it; I’m actually loving each and every second spent doing or coming up with something productive.

This weekend, however, I decided to take a break.

At least just for two days.

I usually talk a lot, even if I’m just around family members. I barely spoke a word for two days straight. I decided to forget about how hectic my schedule has been and will be once I resume living reality again.

I have a mild obsessive-compulsive disorder. I make sure I fill up my organizer’s calendar at least 2 weeks in advance. Last Thursday, I realized that my life will be taking a sprint from here on.

In two days, I will be starting to work in Makati.

In two weeks, I will be having my thesis defense.

In two months, I will be going on another trip (a.k.a. 4 days of celebration, inebriation and liberation) with friends.

Not to mention the Ilocos trip I’ve been planning for the block in a month’s time and graduation in three.

These deadlines aren’t the only things I have to worry about. I also have to prepare for all these things I’m looking forward to.

  • Start working out again: Got to be ready for Ilocos Norte and Boracay!
  • Thesis Sleepovers: Mock defenses, read, research and more reading!
  • Adjusting to the whole office environment: Do what you love or love what you do!

We cannot complain for the abundance of stress or the lack of time in our lives. We choose to live this way. We can rant about how we can’t fit in time for a little fun and merriment with friends and family but it is actually all up to us to make it happen. You choose to live in a fast pace. You create your own timetable. No one else can tell you when to walk slow, briskly or go for a sprint. We have our own reasons for the pace we choose for ourselves. Time can never be blamed. We all have free will and the choice to make the most of the time we have in our hands.

As cliche as it may sound, life really is too short to be on slow-mo. Make the most out of the time you have.

How do you choose to spend yours?
